The Recreational Boater’s Environmental Report Card
Written by Peter A. Robson

ImageIn an effort to help maintain coastal British Columbia’s rich marine ecosystem, Pacific Yachting invites recreational boaters to participate in an exciting new project. Each year, tens of thousands of pleasure craft cruise the waters between Juan de Fuca Strait and Dixon Entrance. As a group, recreational boaters anchor, moor or transit most of B.C.’s 27,000 kilometres of coastline, making them an ideal resource for information on the health of the region.    To participate in this survey, please click on this link "Pacific Yachting Report Card".

Boating Courses

The Kelowna Squadron offers many advanced

and elective courses to meet the needs

of Central Okanagan Boaters.

The Kelowna Squadron's fall training program is in progress.

Students that pass the required exam will also receive their PCOC (Pleasure Craft Operator Card) which is soon to become a mandatory item for every person operating a motor driven vessel anywhere in Canada.

Our next offering of courses happens in the spring.  Please drop in to the Kelowna Yacht Club on  Monday  January  14th, 2008  at 7:00 PM to peruse and to register for a CPS course that will help you on the way to becoming a more proficient and a safer boater.

  Important Notice:         Pleasure Craft Licences

As of April 1, 2006, the Canada Border Services Agency is no longer responsible for issuing pleasure craft licences. This responsibility has been transferred to Service Canada.

Service Canada will continue to provide this service free of charge and licenses will continue to be transferable to any subsequent owner of a vessel.

In addition, Service Canada will offer an electronic application system and will eventually provide enhanced search capabilities to assist law enforcement and search and rescue agencies in the event of emergencies.

For a Service Canada location near you call 1 800 O-Canada (1 800 622-6232) or visit the Service Canada Web site.
